A Tomb With Colourful Canopies | Isa Khan’s Tomb is an absolutely gorgeous heritage monument tucked in the Humayun’s Tomb Complex. Isa Khan was a prominent member of the ruling Lodhi family and held great prominence during that dynasty. He was born in 1453 and was one of the few people whose tomb was built during his lifetime and not after his death.

He met his end in a battle with Sher Shah Suri and this tomb is his resting place. It is octagon-shaped like most Mughal monuments but this tomb is covered with canopies that are glazed with tiles that display a colourful pattern. There’s also a huge verandah that’s supported by carved pillars and makes for a great spot to click some pictures. During a restoration session in 2011, it was discovered that the complex had a sunken garden which was determined to be India’s oldest sunken garden!

With the weather getting warmer, an appropriate time to visit would be during the late afternoons. The deep history and architecture of this tomb make this place definitely worth a visit - so swing by sometime when you want to escape the monotony of your life and just relax and unwind!
