Unique & Mystical, Experience A Fusion Of Cultures @ The Omkareshwara Temple In Coorg

If ancient history and architecture intrigue you, then allow yourself to travel to a time long gone by at Coorg’s most famous temple that has myths and legends galore attached to it!

The Omkareshwara is an ancient shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva and boasts of a fantastic tale of how and why the temple with its sizable shivling came to be! What got us all psyched is how the temple is often seen as the ultimate symbol of secularism with its mix of Gothic and Islamic styles of architecture. The unique construction of this Hindu temple immediately strikes one as unusual upon seeing the large central dome and four minarets that form this imposing structure, closely resembling a Muslim dargah.

The shivling too is positioned unconventionally at the very entrance and the typical pillared hall found in most temples is also missing in this case.

The calming mantapa at the centre of the temple’s fish-filled water tank is the perfect spot to experience true peace and quiet as you ponder over the legend of the temple and try envisioning a golden age era.

This is not your typical mandir where a horde of clamorous devotees take away the serenity from this slice of divinity.

So go ahead and do some soul searching while you’re here!
