Aga Khan Palace was built in 1892 by Sultan Muhammed Shah Aga Khan III. Constructed to accommodate underprivileged citizens who were severely affected by the flood, this palace has a long history attached to its name and we’re here to give you all the deets about it!

From The Bygone Era | During the launch of the Quit India Movement, Mahatma Gandhi, his wife, and his secretary were held captive in this palace. Kasturba Gandhi, his wife, and Mahadev Desaiwere, his secretary, died during the captivity and their samadhis were placed within the premises. Presently, Aga Khan Palace houses the Gandhi National Memorial.

Spread over a lavish area of 6.5 acres, you will find Gandhi’s, his wife’s and his secretary’s shrines (along with their ashes) next to a sprawling garden. The palace has Italian arches and the architecture shows a glimpse of various cultures.
