Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Mumbai City Museum was established in 1855 and is located near the Byculla Zoo. This museum is a treasure trove of decorative and industrial arts that’ll remind you of the rich heritage and culture that this city boasts. Glimpse Into The Past | The museum had opened its door to the public in 1872 and was refurbished in 2003. It reopened in 2008, after 5 years of intensive work. It received the International Crown Quality award in 2016 for its quality, customer satisfaction and continuous innovation.
The museum consists of maps, archeological finds, clay models, historical pictures of Mumbai, costumes and silver & copper wire. A 17th century manuscript of Hatim Tai is also displayed here, along with a monolith basalt elephant structure that originated from the Elephanta Island.
