Delhizens, here’s a shocker. You might soon have to gear up for another auto fare hike after the last one back in 2013. *What?!* Read on.
Here’s The Deets | The Transport Ministry is setting up a committee to look into the revision of auto rickshaw fares, which last went up in 2013. The committee is said to have representatives from the autorickshaw union and the government’s financial and transport departments. The committee will be responsible for deciding whether a revision in fare is needed, keeping in mind the rate of inflation, fuel prices and cost of maintenance of autos.
The last eye-popping hike was seen in 2013, when the auto fares were increased by 25%, and the base fare was raised from Rs 19 to Rs 25 for the first 2 kms, with the fare for every subsequent km also raised from Rs 6.5 to Rs 8.
And now that another price hike is on the cards, all we Dilliwallas can do is wait and watch for the committee's decision. Stay tuned for more updates on this!
