You May Be Fined Rs 10k If You’re Found Guilty Of Not Giving Way To An Ambulance & More
The sorry state of traffic affairs in our city is not hidden from anyone as horns blare with blatant disregard to the noise pollution levels, people jump signals, overtake from the wrong side, speed nonchalantly and whatnot. But perhaps the most upsetting situation is when we find an ambulance stuck in a jam with no way out. But seems like all that’s about to change with this new move!
Make Way For The Ambulance, Folks! | Recently we heard that the cabinet has passed the Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Bill which imposes hefty fines on traffic defaulters. Yep, one such notable penalty is a fine of a whopping Rs 10,000 on those who don’t give way to an ambulance.
But that’s not all, the Bill has introduced similar penalties for various offences ranging from over-speeding & drunken driving to even driving with a suspended license. Plus, aggregators violating driving license can be fined up to Rs 1 lakh. Did you know that enforcing officials caught committing these offences will be charged double? Yep.
Moreover, in the case of juveniles caught offending these laws, it will be the owners of the vehicles who will be fined, unless they can prove that they did something to prevent the same or that the act was done without their knowledge. If they fail to do so, the guardian can face imprisonment of 3-years, a fine of Rs 25,000 and even cancellation of the license, while the minor can face a trial under the Juvenile Justice Act.
Do you think this legislation will bring about any change in the way you conduct yourselves on the road?
