A glimpse of the Jama Masjid Metro Station (PTI Photo)

Finally the wait is over, Delhi Metro’s Heritage Line has finally been inaugurated and is open for public use! YAY! M. Venkaiah Naidu, the Union Urban Development Minister along with Arvind Kejriwal - Delhi’s Chief Minister, jointly inaugurated the line on Sunday!

The stretch comprises four stations - Kashmere Gate, Delhi Gate, Jama Masjid and Lal Quila. The section, which is an extension of the Violet Line that connects Faridabad to ITO, will make it easier for people to reach Delhi Gate, Daryaganj, Jama Masjid, Matia Mahal, Red Fort and parts of Chandni Chowk that lie in the proximity of Red Fort.

Earlier, people had to get off at Chandni Chowk Metro Station to visit any of these heritage sights but now the Walled City just got closer to business hubs with an easier (and faster) way to get to it!

What We're Tripping on | The 3D panels (48 in total) at the Jama Masjid Station showcases the mosque's traditional architecture - arches, jharokhas, minarets, domes and marble inlays that form this beautiful monument; the artwork and photographs are conceptualised by the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH).  The mosque and its surroundings in Shahjahanabad will be shown using an archival map and Google Maps will be used to explain its present day setting in the city.

The metro stations also look simply fabulous and we just can’t wait to clamber aboard the Heritage Line now!
