Here's Your Potent Delhi Guide Of The Choicest Weekly Bazaars For Every Day Of The Week
Delhi is a shopper’s paradise, from gleaming malls and shopping complexes to flea markets and haats, all types of markets exist simultaneously. One of the most endearing features of Delhi is the concept of weekly bazaars. Wherever you go in Delhi, any colony or corner in the city, you are likely to find a buzzing weekly bazaar! One day every week, a large strip of the main street of any residential colony is taken over by street vendors who sell their fare at prices well below what's found in the huge shopping malls dotting the city. Let's take a look at some of these bazaars, shall we?!
Sunday Bazaar aka Ravi Bazaar
The prima donna of all bazaars & perhaps the oldest & largest of them all is the Chor Bazaar. It is estimated that over 10,000 makeshift wooden planks or pattris are laid out from Jama Masjid to Darya Ganj. Earlier, the venue of this Sunday Bazaar was right outside the Red Fort, but this used to cause long traffic snarls, so it was shifted from there. Everything you wish to buy, starting from books which are the perennial favourites to the proverbial airplane is to be found at this Mecca of weekly bazaars!
Some families make it to this Chor Bazaar every Sunday; whether they want to buy something or not, just to revel in the atmosphere. Also, there's the Daryaganj Sunday book market nearby which is famously known for its varied range of timeless books! If this Sunday market is too far for you then you can pop by the one in RK Puram!
Monday Bazaar aka Som Bazaar
Karol Bagh, Vikas Puri and Saket on Mondays are transformed by the pavement stalls which seem to swamp the place, turning it into a mela or fair of some sort. You will find middle-class folks jostling for space with villagers, buying products ranging from ready-made garments for kids and grownups to kitchen items & plastic household ware. You will find bone china crockery vying for attention with ironing boards and plastic stools & chairs, all at one mad place!
Tuesday Bazaar aka Mangal Bazaar
Head to Dilshad Garden, 60 feet road in Chattarpur and Noida Sector 2 on any Tuesday if you want to buy anything and everything ranging from clothes, toys, spices & kadhais (works), ladles, spoons & rolling pins, the choice is yours. Plus, you can happily bargain away to pick up what you need at throwaway prices, which you could never have dreamed of at those swanky malls! The energy and atmosphere at these bazaars will captivate your hearts and will have you coming back every week!
Wednesday Bazaar aka Budh Bazaar

You can score everything you need from these one-stop-shopping destinations, from household essentials to jewellery, cloth pieces, kitchenware and so much more. Every patron goes home happy & contented with stuff that cost a fraction of what they would have had to pay in upmarket shopping malls, of reasonably good quality & prompt service.
Friday Bazaar aka Shukra Bazaar
Mohammadpurwhich is right next to Safdarjung near St Thomas Church, Vikram Enclave & Sanjay Nagar, all these residential areas have picked Friday as the day to set up the weekly bazaar. Shoppers can start off their weekend at these markets and let go as they jump headlong into the mad rush of patrons who take to this weekly market like flies to jaggery.
