We Can Soon Pay With Our Phones At Airport Line Metro Stations, So Buh-Bye Smart Cards!

Bookmark

Hey, metro commuters! Do you guys know that soon, while travelling in Delhi Metro’s Airport Express Line, you won’t need smart cards or tokens anymore? Yep, that’s right. Read on to find out what’s happening!

Are Smartphones The New Smart Cards? | So very soon, you metro travellers will be able to use your smartphones at the Airport Express Line! The DMRC is developing a new system at the Airport Express Line wherein you guys can pay for your metro ride via QR codes generated on your smartphones. No more standing in token counter queues! Yayy!

The DMRC will soon modify the automatic fare collection gates at all the metro stations of the Airport Express Line and make them QR code-enabled. Y’all will soon have to use the Bharat QR code for making payments for your metro rides. This code was initially launched by the Union Government to encourage cashless transactions throughout the nation.

For this, you’ll have to first download the Bharat QR code app in your phones. You can link your bank accounts to this app to facilitate seamless transactions at the metro stations. The AFC gates at these metro stations will have scanners to scan the QR codes on your phones.

DMRC has already started working on a pilot project called Dream Gates at two entry points at the Lal Qila Metro Station and at two exit points at the Jama Masjid Metro Station.

This sure seems like a great move towards cashless transactions. Kudos, DMRC!
