Try Scrumptious Bheega Kulcha And Stuffed Amritsari Kulcha Starting At Rs 50 In Subhash Nagar
Every Delhiite has a gourmet hidden somewhere within them. And it’s this love for food that’s made us appreciate and fall for Punjabi cuisine, the flavourful, the better. So, it comes as no surprise that Amritsari naans and kulchas have been driving the city loco. And to satiate our perpetual hunger for delish grub, we visited a humble cart in Subhash Nagar called Pyare Lal Ji Ke Amritsari Kulche that’s been famously dishing out kulchas, but with a pleasant twist.
Amritsari Pizza, Anyone? | The speciality of this place is a rather unique item named Bheega Kulcha, which the owner lovingly likes to call ‘Amritsari Pizza’. It is basically a kulcha stuffed with mashed potatoes, soaked in chole and itsgravy chole, onion slices and a generous spray of their signature green chutney. And the crazy part of it all is that it’s made without any ghee or oil, can you believe it? Street food without any grease that’s just as delicious, if not more, might seem incomprehensible to some but Pyare Lal ji did it and that too in style!

Taste Unparalleled! | The first bite itself conveyed to us that the distinctive method of preparation of steeping had worked its magic. The kulcha was buttery soft and was thoroughly imbued with the delectable flavours of the chole.
A wave of well-balanced spices washed over our palates and there was no stopping us from gobbling down the entire plate after that!
This place has another memorable dish, a stuffed kulcha, which is a must-try. This stuffed kulcha came with chole, separately on the side. In fact, the entire tray, when we were presented with it, astonished us for it looked no less than a feast! A massive bowl brimming with chole and garnished with sliced onions and the green chutney, a separate bowl of pickles which roomed an impressive variety, from wedges of onions to lemons to mango and even ginger slices.
And to our disbelief, we were informed that everything was, in fact, brought all the way from Amritsar. The stuffing of aloo in the kulchas was quite decent, the chole perfectly flavoured and coupled with the accompaniments provided to us, it really felt like we’d just had our fill of authentic and indulgent Punjabi food. At the absolute end, we were offered some chunks of jaggery which made us realize, it was the perfect finale to the meal we didn’t even know we were missing earlier!
They’ve been in business for the past 10-15 years and have garnered a fiercely loyal customer base since. They open at around 8 in the morning and close shop as soon as the stock is exhausted. If you want to try out their outstanding offerings, and we say that you do, we recommend going in the morning to enjoy a heavy breakfast!
