The horror of dirty washrooms on train stations will now come to an end as Indian Railways is planning to to install better toilets at 25 Delhi NCR stations. Yayy!
What’s Happening? | In order to improve the condition of toilets in railway stations around the capital, the Delhi division of Northern Railways is set to get better toilets. And we think this is an awesome move!
They’re inviting tenders for maintaining cleanliness of the toilets at these stations, which will then result in high quality pay and use toilets. While the use of urinals will be free, a nominal fee will be charge for using the toilets.
Under the first phase, the stations that will be covered include New Delhi, Old Delhi, Nizamuddin, Sarai Rohilla, Delhi Cantt, Okhla Adarsh Nagar, Ghaziabad, Nangloi, Delhi Shahdara, Ballabgarh, Sahibabad and Faridabad, amongst others.
Most of the toilets are expected to be commissioned by December 2018, and this move will hopefully see a reduction in public defecation incidents and will help the station maintain cleanliness. The division is planning a Private-Public Partnership for revamping these toilets which are currently in a really poor condition. As of now, 6 toilets will be renovated at New Delhi and Old Delhi, while 2 at Anand Vihar are in the pipeline.
We applaud this initiative by Indian Railways!
