One never really stops at petrol pumps for anything other than fuel and the occasional nature’s call, but one might want to spend some more time at this fuel station called Fuel Nation in Gurgaon! This petrol pump was conceptualized and set up by Shaurya Chakra Captain Umang Bhardwaj’s elder brother and it has its heart set on spreading healthy habits. They have a free library (yes, you read it right!), a free bike rental facility PLUS two cutesy eateries, now how cool is that?! Come follow us in y’all:

The Book Stop – A Free Library For All

article image

The Book Stop @ Fuel Station is a tiny library that has a single motive - to encourage people to read, without seeking any consideration in return. How this works is simple – you can pick a book of your choice from their collection and take it home. All you have to do is make an entry in their register with your contact details. That’s it, really! You can return the book whenever you’re done with it, ‘cuz there is no time limit whatsoever!

Also, you can donate books to their library to help increase their collection. They welcome title suggestions from everyone and are making a genuine effort to spread the awesome habit of reading. We totally laud them for taking this initiative!

Park N Ride – Urging Gurgaon To Travel Better

Aren’t traffic and pollution poisoning our lives slowly? Deep down, we all know they are! And so here’s Fuel Nation’s small effort to encourage exercise and reduce pollution in this concrete jungle called Gurgaon. Their free bike rental, (yes, they’re really not trying to earn out of making you read or exercise!) has a simple method of operation as well. You just need to provide them with something of value to you that you’ll definitely come back to collect in order to rent a bicycle for as long as you want! So, if you park your car at the petrol pump, you can totally take one of their cool black and white cycles for a ride that’ll benefit your calf muscles quite a bit.

We also tripped on over to the two cutesy eateries on the premises, so here goes:

Paddy’s The Grub Grill:

This cute little wooden café is bang in the middle of the entrance of the petrol pump, so you can’t possibly miss it! Currently in the process of building an air-conditioned seating area, they’re happy to serve you food that you can take away or have in the seating area of their neighbour, Rocketchefs. Here’s what we tried here:

Chicken Sausage Sandwich & Vampire Slush

This grilled but cold sandwich with a side of fries was actually pretty nice and light. It was as close to a homemade sandwich as one could possibly get, with a generous stuffing of chicken sausages and lettuce.

The Vampire Slush, although more of a sherbet with plenty of ice, was absolutely refreshing and quite delicious, to be honest! Unlike most super sugary drinks, this was the right amount of sweet and tangy and we wouldn’t mind grabbing one the next time we stop here for a fuel refill.

Meal For Two | Rs 600

Rocketchefs:

On the left side of the entrance of the petrol pump, Rocketchefs is a tiny café with ample seating that’s oh-so-pretty! They have a long rectangular grassy patch to themselves that they’ve decorated with fairy lights and adorable seating, with a couple of green plants sitting peacefully on each table. We gobbled up THESE here:

Veg Supreme Pizza & Chocolate Milkshake

We ordered a 7 inch veg pizza that was quite fresh, but took pretty long to arrive. This was like a homemade pizza with lots more, gooey more cheese. Nothing too extraordinary, but nothing shabby either. The Chocolate Milkshake, however, was lower on chocolate than we’d expected and that was a little disappointing, considering we received it after we were halfway through our pizza!

Meal For Two | Rs 650

All in all, this place is a nice surprise, given the fact that it’s a petrol pump after all. The owner of Rocketchefs, however, was exceptionally sweet and even helped us pay for Paddy’s in cash (we’ve become such cashless people post demonetization!), so defo drop on by when you’re driving around Gurgaon!
