Bookmark

To make things smoother, the DMRC has planned to replace token counters with token vending machines at some of the busiest metro stations. The plan is to make all the stations on the DMRC network counterless in the future. Hello, Delhiites, we’re going to tell you all about this development.

Going Automatic | The metro stations on the entire network has been divided into categories A to E wherein category E sees only 10% of commuters using tokens. These were the first ones to be replaced with ‘Token Vending Machines’ (TVM). The next one to see this move was category D (with 15%) and Category C (with 25%). Now the work will start on Category B (with 30%) wherein 20 metro stations will see the installation of 100 TVMs. The commuters will be urged to shift towards smart cards and eventually all the token counters will be phased out over the span of the next 6 months!

The stations where this is being done include Noida Sector 16, Janakpuri West, Patel Nagar, New Ashok Nagar, Sarai (Faridabad), Guru Dronacharya (Gurgaon), Tis Hazari, Moti Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, Tughlaqabad, Rohini West, Tagore Garden, Rajouri Garden, Uttam Nagar West, Karkardooma, Ramesh Nagar, Preet Vihar, Nehru Place and Sector 28 (Faridabad).

The stations that fall in Category A which see a huge footfall of people will keep the counters for a long time, and these include New Delhi and Anand Vihar metro stations.

What do you think about this move?
