The Notoriously Famous Chor Bazaar Might Be Shifted From Subhash Park, Red Fort

Bookmark

Kabari Bazaar, popularly known as Chor Bazaar, might get a new address. This weekly market takes place at Subhash Park near the Red Fort and sees droves of people looking for cheap deals on pre-owned goods. But we just got wind of this new development that’ll be of use not only for the frequenters of the market but also for the ones who put up nearby.

Your Thrift Market Might Get A New Address | The Chor Bazaar will soon be shifted from Subhash Park but seems like this is not the first time something of the sort is happening. Started in the Mughal Era, this market was part of the Meena Bazaar inside the Red Fort initially and was shifted to Chawri Bazaar near Jama Masjid after that. During the 60s, the market moved right in front of Lal Quila and stayed there till 2000.

It became a haven for all the junk and pre-owned goods hoarders as one could find such products at unbelievably cheap rates here. The market sees approx 1,500 sellers every Sunday and a sea of people on the lookout for thrifty deals. As the market became popular, the crowd and traffic increased and safety became a major concern for the authorities.

Due to the traffic influx and encroachment by the sellers, government officials have decided to shift the market to a new address and a list of 5 places will soon be compiled. Although this is a good move keeping in mind the safety and traffic concerns that have been raised, we’ll miss seeing the thriving market in front of the Red Fort.

Where do you think the market will be shifted to?
