If you’re someone who loves to travel by road and you’ve been to Amritsar before, you’ll be aware that the avg. time taken to reach the destination is approx. 8 hours. But this may change in the near future and how!

Closer To Amritsar? | NH-44 is the most frequently used route for travelling to Amritsar which is the connecting road between Delhi and Jammu. But on Tuesday, the 2nd of June the Centre announced about its plans to convert the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra expressway into a greenfield project. This will reduce the time taken to travel to the city to JUST 4 hours! Union Minister, Nitin Gadkari, has approved the first phase about the route between Delhi and Gurdaspur. This will also pass from the cities of Jalandhar and Ludhiana.

The greenfield alignment will allow direct connectivity to Amritsar and the 100 kms stretch will connect five towns in Punjab - Sultanpur Lodhi, Goindwal Sahib, Khadoor Sahib and Tarn Taran.
The second part of the project is to develop NH3 from Kartapur to Amritsar bypass to a 6-lane road. This will reduce the time taken to reach Katra to less than 7 hours through this 575 kms corridor.

Let’s hope this happens ASAP so that once the COVID-19 pandemic is over, we can take a road trip to the Golden City.
