As you guys already know liquor shops were supposed to reopen on Monday, the 4th of May in the city and there were huge queues outside many liquor vends. So, here’s what you need to know about this mandate.
Heavy Price For Liquor | The Centre allowed the re-opening of liquor stores with some conditions in all zones with the exception of containment zones. But when the liquor shops opened in Delhi on Monday, the 4th of May, it was utter chaos in front of the shops and most of them witnessing overcrowding and the idea of social distancing basically went for a toss! And so, now the government has levied a ‘Special Corona Fees’ of 70% on the sale of liquor. This revised rate has been implemented from Tuesday, the 5th of May, onwards. This decision was taken to boost the government’s depleting treasury which is supported by the revenue collected from the sale of liquor.
Did you know there are 850 liquor shops in the city? Only standalone liquor shops with L-6 and L-8 licenses have been given permission to open, those in malls or shopping complexes haven’t been granted the permission yet. Plus, tobacco shops have also been given the go-ahead to resume operations again. However, as you may know, that the movement for non-essential purposes is prohibited between 7 PM and 7 AM.
In Delhi, approx. 150 shops were opened and the operational timings for these were set from 9 AM to 6:30 PM. Plus, the government has asked the shops to maintain social distancing with customers standing at a distance of at least 2 meters (which were earlier flouted by nearly all the shops) and the stand-alone shops in containment zones won’t be allowed to open. Moreover, only 5 people will be allowed in a shop at any time with masks being necessary.
Let’s ensure we make use of this relaxation order, responsibly!
