Being Delhiites we all know how popular our beloved Lajpat Nagar market is, with its numerous stores dedicated to fashion and food. We loved collecting quirky bags and trinkets here, and the food was always finger-licking good, like chicken tikka, dahi ke sholey and more! So, it definitely came as a huge blow when we heard that the market was shut down! Here are all the deets!
A Violation Of COVID Norms | We’ve just heard that two major markets - Lajpat Nagar Central Market and Sadar Bazaar's Rui Mandi market - have been shut down until further orders from the authorities. This news comes following the shutdown of Punjabi Basti and Janata Market in the Nangloi area of the national capital on Saturday, which was ordered to be closed till Tuesday due to rising disregard for COVID-19 rules.
The Central Market was shut down until further notice because social distancing and other COVID-19 protocols were not being followed. The market has over 2,000 shops and sees a massive footfall every day, which can be a huge cause of a spreader outbreak of COVID-19. Authorities further warned that if any shopkeeper is found violating the order or is a part of any act that may spread the deadly virus, necessary action would be taken against them.
The Delhi Disaster Management Authority has also warned markets like Sarojini Nagar and Kamla Nagar by issuing notices last week about overcrowding. They say that if rules are not followed, stricter action may be taken.
What are your thoughts on the shutdown of these popular markets in Delhi due to COVID-19 violations?
