You can fine dine and attend all the high teas and soirees you want in life, but we know that it's the roadside joints that truly rule the streets in Delhi. We don't need a 'special occasion' to pop into our friendly neighbourhood dhaba or our go-to Chinese van, we don't need to live like the Amish and save for weeks on end just to blow it all on one hi-fi meal. Street food does not discriminate, it offers one and all the unbridled joy of eating to their heart's content without looking twice at the bill or getting a heart attack on the taxes! GST who?

A common fixture on the street eats landscape are the bread-anda wallahs - at whose thelas there's never a dull moment. These guys work like well-oiled machines - the whisking, chopping, dicing, frying, seasoning, and serving all seem to be happening simultaneously! While every andey wala becomes a life saver at some point of time, there are a few who've cracked the big leagues with some egg-ceptionally unconventional dishes. Our bylanes are buzzing with egg-citing innovations and these desi chefs are definitely bringing their A game. Doling out happiness by the dozen, these are the best desi egg stalls in Delhi :

Mithlesh Ande Wala

Amongst the many different egg specials on offer here (all with generous amounts of buttery love!) is the Kulcha Omelette - an omelette wrapped around a kulcha with lemon drops squeezed on top and a dash of Mithlesh's secret masala - which we can peg as its claim to fame! These guys have mastered the art of turning a monotonous ingredient into something fancier and yummier. Do try the Salami Roll as well if you're in the vicinity, we promise you won't regret it. Although this kiosk has no seating, it's always crowded and rightly so. The service is quick enough though!

Rahul Eggs Corner

A legend in Keshavpuram, Rahul Eggs offers an astonishing 350 types of egg preparations! There's hatke omelettes, French toast, fried and boiled eggs, Monacos, garlic breads and even omelette dosas in both veg and non-veg variants. Regulars swear by its insane diversity and value for money, as do we. Our personal recommendations are the PCM (Paneer, Cheese & Mayo), Tandoori Jalandhari and Cheese Pasta omelettes, which are now our staple orders here.

We didn't even look at the small 'Fat-Free' section on the menu when faced with such enticing alternatives. It's a small outlet with five-six tables and you'll seldom find it empty, so be prepared to wait it out for a while in case you land up during peak hours!

Dwarka Ki Spl. Pizza Omelette

They open for business at 3 PM and by 11 PM, practically everything is sold out. The hefty Pizza Omelette is a huge hit with West Delhizens, and it definitely looks lit and loaded with copious amounts of cheese and fresh veggies accompanied by chutney and boiled eggs. You can have yours prepped with 2, 3, 4, 6 or even 8 eggs depending on how hungry you are. We can't wait to try this one out!

Their menu is divided into two sections – one which uses Amul butter and the other with Nutralite for the health-conscious. Another thing that caught our eye was the Dry Fruit Pizza Omelette, which we've never seen on any menu before. Tried it? We wanna hear all about it in the comments below!

Purani Dilli is a gift that just keeps on giving! Khan Omelette Corner in Chandni Chowk serves up some delish Fried Eggs, Egg & Cheese Sandwiches, boiled Egg Bhurji and healthy Boiled Eggs. They specialize in the cheese variety and the menu is simple and effective - they do what they do best. Also, if you're reeeeally picky and like having options right from scratch, you can choose between desi and farm eggs to be used for your dish of choice. We definitely don't need any more egging on to try out another one of the walled city's hidden gems and neither should you!

Mukesh Egg Corner - Mangla Puri Flyover

We've only heard about this small stall parked below the Mangla Puri flyover through word of mouth but whatever we're hearing is already making us drool our tongues off! The omelettes of 2-10 eggs each are doused in butter, seasoned with onions, chilli, ginger, tomato slices, shredded cottage cheese and cilantro, and are served with a sprinkling of lemon juice for that perfect kick. You'll be hearing more about this from us soon cuz we're planning to head right over!

Location | Below Mangla Puri Flyover

Most of these joints are operational in the evening hours only, so we suggest checking out the timings before dropping by. Got any more to add to the list? Shoot away, recommendations are always welcome!
