We’ve been hit with another wave of this deadly pandemic and the situation just keeps getting worse with the new strain raging on. With most of the cities in lockdown and the surging number of cases at an all-time high, we’re grappling with all we can do to help stabilise the situation. And amidst this adversity that the people of our country are facing, the beacon of hope comes in the form of vaccinations.

It has been scientifically proven that vaccines reduce the chances of infection and spreading COVID-19 to others. It also protects against severe symptoms of the disease and hospitalisation. And, with the current research and experience, vaccines will also help us ditch the masks and gain herd immunity. It’ll help in preventing the virus from spreading, replicating and then mutating, which will eventually help in rebuilding the affected economy and communities.

Taking an example from the recent case of Israel, where after over a year, they lifted the mandatory outdoor mask-wearing on 18th April 2021 by vaccinating more than 60% of its population. This could be our reality soon too if we take the necessary precautions and steps in getting inoculated!

On 28th April 2021, we were all greeted with the fantastic news that vaccination registrations have opened for the age groups of 18 years and above, which will be gradually rolled out from 1st May 2021. Though there is still a huge population and age demographics that are sceptical of the vaccine or do not understand the benefits of immunisation, it is our duty as responsible citizens of the country to spread awareness on the merits of vaccination and help pull out the country from this tragedy.

How To Make A Difference?

The best way to help out in these current times is to help spread the message of the benefits of immunisation and by educating the masses on the benefits of vaccination, that will not only help you avoid contracting COVID-19 and even if you were susceptible to the disease, but it will also help you dodge severe illness and life-threatening symptoms, particularly people that are at a higher risk of contract COVID.

You can further help by creating discourse on the matter via social media. India’s youth uses social media as a primary content consumption tool and platform and each one of us has a social responsibility to our friends and family who turn to us for advice and inspiration. We can come together and amplify the message ‘Don’t Wait, Vaccinate!’, to reach each and every person across the country, in order to come out of this national pandemic and start doing more than what we could in the past year.

How You Can Contribute To The Initiative?

Dear readers, even you can help join this initiative and make a difference with us, as we spread the message of assimilating this important tool to help stop the pandemic in our lives. You can help by posting creative content online, be it a doodle, an animation, a photo, a video, a sketch or a scribble or more in order to engage the readers and make them pay attention to the cause. This can be done via a post or a reel on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter. And in doing just that you’re creating a stand and encouraging people to fight the pandemic head-on!

You can make all the difference in the world even if it’s a tiny ripple in the gigantic ocean of online content. So, take the initiative, and broken as we are today, let's remember that it’s not too late to fix things and do our bit towards rebuilding a better, stronger and healthier India.

Registrations for vaccination are open for those aged 18 and above, so please enrol by logging on to the Co-WIN portal or through your Aarogya Setu App. Please note that this will be a phased rollout with some states starting before others, so do not panic if it takes some time before the vaccine is available for you!
