Delhi5 Sweet And Savoury Delights You All Gotta Have @ This Seasoned Shop In Shankar Road
A lazy Sunday morning brought us to a shop called the Peshawar Sweet Bhandar in Shankar Road which has been serving its customers for over 67 years now. The name might label this place as a sweet shop but they serve mind-boggling varieties of savoury snacks as well. Though their speciality and the thing they’re uber famous for is their breakfast items, so we decided to give those a shot. Here’s everything that we had at this seasoned place, read on to know what we thought of them!
1. Poori Chole

This was one of the best breakfasts we had had in quite some time. The plate consisted of two fluffy pooris, chole with gravy and some mango and methi-daana achaar with mirchis. The pooris prepared in desi ghee were thin and soft but crispy, while the spicy chole tasted absolutely marvellous because of the delicious masala gravy. The achaar helped enhance the crispy and tangy flavour of the chole.
Talking about the pooris, though they were a little oily, they tasted very light with the gravy and overall, the dish did absolute justice to its popularity. We were so impressed by this dish that we polished off the entire plate in no time at all!

2. Gulab Jamun

After the terrific desi breakfast, we obviously ordered their dessert special that’s been widely famous for over 67 years now - the sweet gulab jamun. We were smitten from the first bite with this authentic Peshawari treat, the recipe of which dates back to a time before the partition. The delicate dessert melted into our mouths and the syrup that the gulab jamuns were drenched in was the perfect amount of sweet and dense. We got tons of it packed on our way back and we’re sure, you will too!

3. Bengali Rasgullas

We ordered two of their lovely chashni-dripping rasgullas which were an absolute delight. The dessert was wonderfully soft & spongy and was immersed in the perfect amount of that yummy sweet syrup. A speciality of Bengal, this dessert should definitely be on your must-order list at this awesome place!

4. Khiramohana

Another one of West Bengal’s specialities, this dessert consisted of some sweet chashni sandwiched in chhena. Though this dish was a little too sweet, we liked how filling the two pieces were and how delicious they tasted after our poori chole meal. You can find this dessert in other variants too. We highly recommend this one for it’s cheap, filling and superbly tasty.
Price | Rs 35 (For 2 Pieces)
5. Ghewar

Available in many variants, we tried the plain Coconut Ghewar from this place. It tasted divine, was incredibly soft and we’re definitely sure that this dessert with some ice cream on the side would make for a fantastic combo. We absolutely loved how minimally sweet it was. For people who prefer lighter desserts, you guys can surely try this yummy here!
Price | Rs 60 (For 100 Grams)
We liked the dhaba-like ambience and the prompt service of the shop but they could definitely improve on the seating arrangement, which wasn't sufficient for the incoming crowd.
Established in the relatively busy part of Shankar Road, you might be able to find a parking spot on a good day. Sunday mornings are usually calmer but you could also visit the shop in the evenings to explore their street food options.
So, head on to this shop where you can have an awesome breakfast and satiate your cravings for Indian sweets!
