Hey guys, have you heard the latest news? Nope? Okay, so the SDMC has something interesting up their sleeves. Come read on as we tell you what’s going on!
What’s Up? | For the first time in Delhi, the SDMC is planning to install solar plants right on the top of covered drains in order to generate green energy. Hmm, now that’s something unheard of. Naaice!
As a part of a pilot project, a solar plant of 500 KW is gonna be installed on the top of a drain in GK I, near Blocks B and R. Another solar plant will be installed in Subhash Nagar. The idea of this innovative project came from the decision to install a canal-top solar plant on the river Narmada in Gujarat back in 2012. The government plans to build something similar over the Najafgarh supplementary drain but that project is yet to materialise.
The fundamental aim behind these initiatives is energy conservation in the capital. In GK I, solar panels will be installed at a height of 10 feet and a parking lot will be built under it. Great usage of space, don’t you think? The electricity generated by these solar panels will be used for running the under-construction sewer treatment plant and that’s pretty great!
Meanwhile, the work on the solar panel at Subhash Nagar will be started once the civic agency finalises a company who will take care of the project.
We must say, this project is really innovative and impressive and we’re looking forward to more such initiatives that’ll help us create our own energy and be self-reliant. Kudos!
