Hello Delhizens, we just heard about an amazing piece of news - Delhi may soon see the replacement of conventional street lights with solar LED lights!
Delhi Markets To Get Solar-Powered LED Lights | The South Delhi Municipal Corporation has planned to replace the conventional wired street lights with solar-powered LED lights, which is a much more viable and eco-friendly option, as these will be equipped with in-built battery backup that’ll last for three days.
Did you know that these LED street lights will also reduce incidents of electrocution as they are made of hard plastic, unlike the traditional ones which were made of galvanised iron (read good conductor of electricity)? So the SDMC now plans to install 120 solar LED lights at 90 fibre plastic poles at Janakpuri District Centre to kick start the project!
FYI, under this massive beautification project, there are also talks about installations of public furniture (read benches), repairing boundary walls & pavements to make them disabled-friendly (aww) and more.
Awesome move, SDMC!
