The National War Memorial Is An Ode To The Valiant Soldiers Who Fought For The Country

There are innumerable soldiers who have laid down their lives to make sure that we have a secure future. They stay up the night patrolling the borders to ensure that we have a good night’s sleep. To commemorate the armed forces, the National War Memorial was unveiled on the 25th of February by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.

Located to the East of India Gate, the Amar Chakra features the Obelisk and Eternal Flame, Veerta Chakra with 6 bronze murals, Tyag Chakra with 29,760 granite tablets and the Rakshak Chakra that has been landscaped with trees. The North complex over here comprises a National War Memorial Gallery and Souvenir Outlet, while the South Complex has the National War Memorial Offices and conveniences. Plus, it’s differently-abled-friendly and has adequate benches where you can sit and just take in the tranquil atmosphere!

The Concept Behind This Memorial

A war memorial could be a building, monument or even a statue that pays homage to those soldiers who laid their lives for the nation. Ever since independence, more than 25,000 people in the armed forces have sacrificed their lives and this memorial has been built to honour those humble souls. It stands as an ode to all the brave souls we lost in various conflicts of the United Nations Operations, Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response Operations.

Decoding The Lighting Scheme

This one is a sight to behold in the evening with the pretty lights illuminating the entire area. The warm white hues all around create a welcoming ambience for the visitors. There are several lighting design layers like the Rakshak Chakra where the theme reflects solidity and duality, Tyag Chakra which puts light on the names of the soldiers to highlight the act of supreme sacrifice, Veerta Chakra which focuses on bravery & victory and Amar Chakra is the glow that’s created around the obelisk (a stone pillar) & the eternal flame to signify purity.
