In one of Delhi’s most chaotic areas, there’s an even more chaotic place: Paharganj! It’s the dream place of every hoarder and hippie alike. Oh, the things you can find here! Colourful dream catchers, shoes, bags, decorative odds and ends, funky junk jewellery, souvenirs, second hand books and so much more and that too at unbelievably low prices! The narrow lanes meander and everything from cars, rickshaws to lorries move around in here which makes it a damn congested place. The main bazaar stretches for approximately 1-1.5 kms. Needless to say, this place is not for the faint-hearted!

With numerous hotels and restaurants and New Delhi Railway Station hardly a few minutes away, this place is very accessible and one can reach from Connaught Place to here in less than 10 minutes. Naveen Footwear

This shop has been here for nearly the past 50 years, and they have an amazing collection of colourful kolhapuris and juttis and moccasin-type shoes. They had some really nice footwear in suede and camel leather (omg!). They also stock khadau-type kolhapuris as well and sell shoes for both the genders. Plus, they also sell colourful bags which are very much in style RN!

Meenu Traders

A very small shop in the main bazaar, it caught our roving eye due to all the juttis hanging outside this small establishment! Handmade chappals are their specialty, and they also sell loads of brightly-coloured, pretty Punjabi and Rajasthani juttis. It’s been around since 1948 guys, and is a hell of a cheap store to shop from!

Dayal Boot House

This shop has been around for 25-30 years now. It’s a big shop with a seriously good footwear collection. They are famous for Rajasthani chappals and kolhapuris in particular. They also sell uber-fashionable sandals with fringes. We loved their unique bird design on the chappals which makes an ordinary chappal look kolhapure and hi-fi instantly!

Bittoo

In the lanes of the main bazaar, we stumbled on this shop. We could see the huge variety of footwear just from one glance at the place. Kolhapuris and juttis galore for both genders! This shop has been here for nearly 40 years. But the variety isn’t everything though; the material (leather), colours and the jari, which their speciality, is just amazing! Come on by.

Vishal Footwear

So we saved the best for the last - this shop is AH-MAZING! It’s been around here since 1984. The owner of this shop is a very down-to-earth and humble fellow. Mr. S Gambhir, the owner, feels that the only thing that matters is the quality of the shoes and customer satisfaction. We agree!

He has a booming export business of beautifully-designed shoes. The shoes also come with a warranty of 6 months, which is quite rare for these parts. His many accomplishments include working with various fashion shows and Mr. Gambhir also showed us news clippings of celebrities like Kareena Kapoor, Sushmita Sen, Aditi Rao Hydari and many more donning original footwear from this shop. Check it out and wear your favourite celeb’s style!

More, they also do customization work. They can turn a basic brown leather chappal into blingy party shoes just by adding a few colourful pom poms! They also sell basic kolhapuris and sandals for men and tiny booties for kids (aww!). We swooned over a pair of black leather gladiators which were only for Rs 1,600 here *gasp*. You gotta check out this place!
