The Public Works Department plans to give the whole length of Chandni Chowk a new look and plenty of greenery and amenities are slated to be installed. This area promises to become an urban oasis, a place of relaxation for pedestrians and shoppers.

Mughal Motifs & Tokyo Traffic Systems | Of the total 1.5 km of Chandni Chowk that is being redeveloped, a 300-meter stretch will be ready to go by Independence Day (15th August) and we couldn’t be more excited to catch a glimpse of this much-needed makeover. A traffic control system that is used in Japan is set to be implemented which will halt traffic from every direction at regular intervals for 30 seconds so that pedestrians can cross over without having to dodge cars.

The agency has also specially selected tiles adorned with Mughal motifs and street furniture that is reminiscent of the Mughal era for the esplanade that is sure to delight everyone!

According to the PWD, the entire project is likely to be completed by next year and the first phase of this project is to ensure ease of movement for the thousands of shoppers that descend upon the market on a daily basis and ultimately to make Chandni Chowk Delhi’s first market to be entirely pedestrian-friendly!

Good going PWD!
