Has the maddening honks of cars, deafening noise from construction sites and the general din of an over-populated metropolis driven you insane? Well, there might be some good news for all Noida dwellers! Intrigued? Read on for all the deets!

Here’s What’s Happening | The Uttar Pradesh Government has asked all districts in Noida to prepare a list of silent zones around the hospitals, educational institutions and courts. The government has further asked these districts to upload the list of potential silent zones on the website of the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB).

As per the guidelines, about 100 metres around hospitals, educational institutions and courts will be declared as silent zones. The districts have also been asked to put up signages like ‘silence zone’ or ‘no honking’ in the silence areas. Fair warning - in case you’re caught honking in these silence zones, you’ll end up paying hefty penalties!

There are about 1,000 schools and 300 colleges in the Gautam Budh Nagar district in UP, along with 35 multi-speciality and super-speciality hospitals. So 100 metre areas around such structures are gonna act like a buffer zone where we can’t honk or create any type of noise whatsoever.

In these silence zones, the noise pollution should not exceed 50 decibels in the daytime and 45 decibels at night. For residential areas, the noise limit is 55 decibels during the day and 45  decibels at night. Similarly, for commercial areas the limit is 65 decibels during the day and 55 decibels at nighttime.

With the implementation of these silence zones, life might become a hell lotta easier for us peeps, don’t you think? Waiting for this initiative to be enforced!
