No matter what season it is, there have always been numerous takers for visiting all the glorious monuments in the city. But for probably the first time, this trend has seen a hit as there is barely anyone willing to visit monuments that were recently opened again.
Deserted Monuments: A New Normal? | Centrally-protected monuments were opened for the public on 6th July by keeping all the social distancing norms in check. But these have attracted a scanty number of visitors. Heritage sites in the city saw a massive dip in its daily average visitors from 5,000-10,000 to just 100. These monuments opened after being closed for over 3 months with the number of visitors being capped at between 2,000 and 5,000.
The highest number of takers on the website of ASI was seen for Qutub Minar at 100-125 tickets being sold on a daily basis (which used to see approx. 10,000 visitors daily). Other monuments were also seen struggling here with Humayun’s Tomb getting a daily average of 50-75 (from 6,000 to 7,000) and Red Fort getting 30-40 visitors (from 8,000 to 12,000). Out of the 1,000 tickets available for a slot for Purana Qila, only 9 were sold on Saturday.
Officials feel the trend will continue until the lifeline of the city AKA metro services restart. Have you visited these monuments since they’ve opened?
