This gem of Lodhi Colony has been everyone’s fave for years. Home to some of the designers and eateries, Meherchand Market has its own charm and we’d all agree to this. We’re sure y’all must have spent time at the very famous, Elma’s Brasserie or parked your cars right outside MI Food Center to gorge on that yummy Mutton Burrah or Nihari. With its close proximity to Khan Market and Indian Habitat Centre, this too has become a go-to for so many people. Well, you’d be delighted to know that your all-time-fave market has been granted approval for revamping, so, read on for more information!

All Hands On Deck | The project for redeveloping Meherchand Market into a multi-storey complex was approved by the Standing Committee after a lot of hold-ups. The standard facade control drawing of the market which enhanced the floor area ratio or FAR from 100 to 350 was approved by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation in November 2020. The civic body didn’t permit extension to the upper floors for the traders to construct after which the shopkeepers submitted a fresh proposal requesting the inclusion of an 8 feet wide verandah in the shop space on the upper floors.

It has now been decided that the shopkeepers will be permitted to cover the verandah at circle rate charges which will be in addition to the conversion charges for the use of an additional 250 FAR. They’ll also be required to submit an affidavit stating that the facade of the buildings will be uniform.

As for the individual plot owners, they have to get the building plan approved by the building department. The Standing Committee chairman, Lt Col BK Oberoi (retd) stated that the other requirement will be in accordance with the requirements of unified building bylaws 2016 and the standard facade control drawing.

Sounds like an exciting project, what do you guys think?
