Remember how we always tell you that Delhi Metro is actually a Pandora’s Box of surprises? Well, they’ve proved this yet again and are upto something that’ll make our lives a little easier. Read ahead as we tell you what’s up their sleeves this time!

What’s Going On? | Here’s some great news for all you metro travellers! From May 2019, all you commuters who’re taking the metro for IGI Airport’s T1 will not have to walk all the way to the airport from the metro station. Why, you ask? Well, because DMRC is constructing a 370-metre long subway that’ll connect Terminal 1 of the airport to the IGI Metro Station on the Magenta Line. Yayy!

In addition to escalators and elevators, the subway will also have travelators and that’s pretty cool. But what’s cooler is the fact that this one’s gonna be the first subway in the city to have a travelator on it! This subway is gonna connect the departures and arrivals sections of the airport to Gate No. 3 of the metro station.

There will be two entry points to the subway, each having staircases and escalators. The elevators will be unique in the sense that they’ll be more spacious and will carry a maximum of 26 people. Nice!

If you’ve travelled to and from the airport to the metro station, then you know that travelling between the arrivals section and the metro station is a lot easier as the distance isn’t much. But if you have to travel to the departures area, it means a long, tedious walk. And that is exactly why the new subway is being constructed and we’re so grateful to DMRC for this! Thanks a ton, guys!
