We have all come across the various stereotypes about Delhi and its peeps. People from all over the country have a different notion about Delhi, while some of them might hold true, there are plenty that do not. Let’s bust some myths about our beloved Delhi and (sometimes considered loud) Delhiites, scroll on to find out! 

1. Expectation: All Delhi Peeps Are Punjabi

Reality: Yes, Delhi has a big Punjabi population and the Punjabi songs are all the rage but that’s the case entirely. Delhi is the meeting point of cultures! People from different states come here for better jobs, education and lifestyle, leaving the capital with a diverse population. Myth Busted!

2. Expectations: Delhi People Are Rude

Reality: Us, Delhi people get that a lot that they are rude and have rowdy behaviour but that’s a big myth. Delhiites are warm, helpful and kind, that is why you shouldn’t hesitate to approach them next time! It’s like saying Parisians are rude and cold, but we know (at least from Emily In Pairs), that we can not categorise all the localities.

3. Expectations: Delhi People Are All About Showoff And Bling

Reality: It might hold true to some extent but in totality that’s not the case! As much as Dilliwallas love all things bling, they also know how to keep it simple and minimalis. Not everyone is here riding a luxury car or wearing expensive jewellery or clothes! Another big label on a diverse population! 

4. Expectations: Delhi Winters Are Not That Cold

Reality: Ask any Delhiite about ‘Dilli Ki Sardi’i and they’ll say it’s colder than hill stations. It might be exaggerated but yes that’s true that the Delhi winters have a charm of their own but it’s super cold too! There have been times when the Delhi winter temperatures were as low as Chandigarh and Kausali. How can we forget about the cold wave, right? 

5. Expectations: Delhi People Cuss A Lot And Are Loud

Reality: Delhiites might cuss a li’l too much than others but that doesn’t mean we are always using foul language and being loud every time. In fact, Delhi people also know how to speak softly and gently! Though some might cuss politely! *hiding our face*
