Kolkata's 113-year-old grand library sitting on a vast 30-acre land is handing out a slice of itself to Delhi, as a regional centre of the library will soon come up in the capital.

The agenda behind it | A lot of recent publications generally do not reach the library as the headquarters of major publishers are present in Delhi and due to inadequate contacts, only 30 to 45% of the fresh material reaches the National Library in Kolkata.

Plus, readers and researchers outside of West Bengal often face difficulty in gaining access to the library. Thus, opening centres in other cities has become a crucial issue.

The user capacity of this centre would be about 25 people, along with 35 computers. In the initial stages, hard copies would not be stored, rather digitised versions would be found. Hope this happens soon!
