DelhiKarol Bagh Is One Of The Busiest Markets In Delhi, But It Doesn't Stop Us From Shopping There!
One of the busiest neighbourhoods of West-Central Delhi, Karol Bagh boasts of being the kind of market that has it all. Accessibility is no problem as it is well-connected by roads & metro. One of the first settlements here were the Muslim population of Old Delhi & later it witnessed other ethnic groups from Punjab, Maharashtra, Bengal & Southern India settling here. The streets here speak volumes about the regions as one enters a local sweet shop, a restaurant or even a snacks corner.
The Karol Bagh region is divided into many roads & localities & every road has specific markets that give you different shopping options. Popular areas are Ajmal Khan Rd, Arya Samaj Rd, Gurudwara Rd, Faiz Rd, Gaffar Market & Bank Street. Please take note that these markets are closed on Mondays.
Wedding Shopping
Ajmal Khan Rd is the closest to the Karol Bagh Metro Station & is famous for its embroidered garments & for Indian ethnic wedding dresses like Lehngas, Sarees & Sherwanis; there are merchants selling clothes of your choice which alternatively you can even get stitched. Besides this, there are ready-made brands available as well. On Mondays, when all the shops are closed, you will find weekly footpath Bazaars (markets) where you can buy clothes & accessories at throwaway prices.
No Indian wedding planning can be complete without jewellery. On the Bank Street & Gurudwara Rd, you come across big & small shops selling jewellery which includes Gold, Silver, Platinum, Rubies, Emeralds & other precious stones. These ornaments are designed by local craftsmen & their families who have been working here for many generations.
Other Shops
On the Arya Samaj Rd there are bookshops selling secondhand books at cheaper rates, a mini-version of the Sunday book market in Daryaganj. This road also has many travel agencies & foreign exchange counters.
On the road, various famous sweet & snack corners are found besides various restaurants. Sprawled across these streets are hawkers selling street food which includes Choley Bhature, Chaat, Channa Kulcha & Kachoris. When here don’t miss out on the Bikaner Sweets Shop on the Arya Samaj Rd & Roshan di Kulfi. Also do visit Udupi, a famous South Indian snacks corner, for some delicious mouthwatering snacks.
Techno Bazaar
Gaffar Market offers imported & custom-sold items at very reasonable prices from mobile phones & iPhones to watches & clothes/accessories - everything is available here. This market specialises in selling all sorts of electronic items & many shops also sell stolen items at a very low price ... all you need to have is good-bargaining skills.
Karol Bagh stretches across east-west. Towards the extreme eastern end & near the Jhandewalan Metro Station is Faiz Rd. This part of the market has automobile shops selling scooters/cars accessories & spare parts and you can come here for bike servicing, automobile painting & for other small repairs. There are multitude of car dealers as well in the area.
No matter how attractive all of this may sound, to experience it is another thing altogether.
