The IGI Airport is about to reach its saturation point so now more than ever, we need a new airport. With talks of a second airport coming up in Greater Noida, which is likely to be twice the size of the IGI Airport, we can’t wait to see this mammoth project come to life!
Fly From The Biggest Airport In The World | The upcoming Jewar Airport in Greater Noida might have 8 runways and this brilliant ‘cause Delhi needs another airport as IGI is getting crowded by the minute. The proposal, if approved and completed, will make it one of the biggest airports in the world (WOAH!) The Jewar Airport will be counted amongst biggies like the O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, the USA which is spread over 7,200 acres and has 7 runways.
The initial plan was to make 6 runways, but the new proposal seeks to build 8 instead. Once, the land is acquired for Phase I, NIAL will send the proposal for 8 runways. The project needs to acquire 1239.94 hectares from 3,000 farmers in the first phase and the whole project will require 5,000 acres of land. The passenger traffic is expected to double in the next 6-7 years and the Delhi Airport will undergo a major change in terms of infrastructure so it can handle 109 million passengers every year.
In the next 5 years, there might be a new terminal building, a new runway and a dedicated Metro network as these developments have been planned by the authorities. Soon, the Delhi Airport will have 4 runways and would handle a whopping 130 million passengers a year! The expected cost of the Jewar airport project is Rs 15,000 - Rs 20,000 crores and might be operational by 2022-23 with two runways.
We can’t wait to see this mammoth project become a reality!
