India's First Multiplex & Delhi's Legendary PVR Anupam To Get A Snazzy Makeover

Bookmark

It was 1997 when India opened its doors to the country’s first multiplex. PVR Anupam unveiled to the populace of the city with SRK and Juhi Chawla’s Yes Boss, which was proudly shot on the premises of this renowned cinema hall. Later on, both the movie and the cinema hall turned out to be a hit amongst the crowd!

New Decade, New Face | With the opening of PVR Anupam, the cinephiles in Delhi rejoiced. In an era where entertainment was not a big part of everyday life, the opening of this movie hall changed everything. From standing in long queues to really uncomfortable seats, or the high prices of movie tickets (75 bucks for a ticket 22 years earlier was a big deal, folks!), Delhiites didn’t seem to mind it all. All shows were usually running housefull, and that started a filmy revolution in the Capital!

Initially named as Anupam 4, which clearly denoted that 4 different movies can be watched at one single roof, it surely created hype amongst the Delhizens, and that’s how a love story between this stalwart and our fair city began!

It was the early 2000s, and we fondly remember taking an auto to PVR Anupam with our families, buying only one box of popcorn because it was pretty expensive back then, sitting on the non-cushiony seats, but nevertheless enjoying the films with all our hearts. Yes, we’re pretty nostalgic right now, but we’re glad PVR Anupam is getting a makeover!

However, with the modernisation of Delhi, the beeline to the iconic theatre diminished drastically. They closed their doors last month, only to be revamped with the latest technology, sound system, projectors, F&B services and new & comfortable seats. They plan to reopen on April 1, 2020, and we only hope Delhiites continue their love affair with this legendary movie hall!
