Indian Railways to Go à La Française - Here's The Inside Story
Tussling with congestion on the railway platforms has nowadays become a regular feature and this is exactly why the New Delhi Railway Station may just get a French treatment soon.
A high power delegation of the French Government along with railway officials went to inspect the railway station recently, and felt the keen need for redevelopment. The station operates nearly 350 trains, witnessing around 5 - 6 lakh commuters regularly which is way more than its current capacity.
As the entry and exit points - Paharganj and Ajmeri Gate respectively, are both fully saturated, there is very less scope of horizontal expansion and so the officials are looking at a vertical expansion in its stead.
If their planning works out and they put their eggs in the right basket, things are definitely going to work out well for us!
