Once upon a happier time, winter in the city was all about the iconic Dilli ki Sardi spread over the capital! But nowadays, it comes accompanied with the threat of choking smog & pollution. And so, the government might have a solution up its sleeve for the coming winter months!

What’s Going Up In Smoke | Ahead of the wintry months of November and December, the Environment Ministry has planned 3 major pilot projects to save us from the menace of pollution. These are - installing filters on buses, using dust separation chemical sprays and putting to use equipment that sucks in particulate matter.

They’re is planning to procure 74 mechanical sweeping equipments in order to suck up the city’s dust. We currently have 34 such machines. Also, there are plans to install hanging gardens on 262 pillars of the Delhi Metro. These are meant to absorb dust, in addition to beautifying the city, as per government officials. As of now, there are 60 pillars in the city, with vertical gardens.

The government is also planning to use water sprinkling as a technique to tackle pollution. Currently, we have about 175 sprinkles, and the government is planning to procure 185 more. The Environment Ministry and Delhi government are planning to finish the required work by September, so that we all can brace ourselves for the months of November and December.

Looks like the winter months promise to be better this time around, with all these projects being put into place. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best!
