Bite Into Garma Garam, Kadak Jalebis At The Iconic Old Famous Jalebi Wala In Chandni Chowk

With a name that is self-explanatory and fame that is spread far and wide, the old and famous Jalebiwala enjoys a legendary status in Delhi. There’s rarely a moment when this tiny shop is not flooded with people waiting to get a taste of the famous jalebis. 

With clients ranging from Akshay Kumar to Indira Gandhi to George Calombaris, Jalebiwala has enjoyed patronage and attention since long. This shop has been around since 1884 and is said to have remained unchanged. 

Currently, they serve jalebis at Rs 500/kg which is a little steep considering one could get jalebis for a lot lesser in and around Chandni Chowk but purists believe that these jalebis are the real deal and it is hard to refute this, especially when confronted by the lovely sight of jalebis being fried and soaked in the juicy, sugar syrup! A plate of 100 gms usually equals one big piece of jalebi, so keep that in mind the next time you ask for one.

Their jalebis are huge, chewy and the batter tastes rather milky than fermented. We prefer our jalebis thin and crispy which was not the case here but the offering is good, crispy or not! The service is quick and unfriendly and there isn’t much scope to linger around as the place is surrounded by passionate eaters and rushed passers-by.

Getting here is quite easy. The shop lies at the starting of Dariba Kalan, if you’re on foot, ask any local for directions. McDonald’s is another place to remember as it lies opposite the street. If you’ve taken the metro, then exit from Chandni Chowk station and get to Fuhara Chowk, cross the street and turn left. Walk straight and look out for this tiny shop on your right.

Big, orange and gratifying, these jalebis are the perfect comfort food and more so during Delhi’s spine chilling winters. We’d say a hot glass of milk and some warm jalebis is all you need to ensure a happy day!
