India’s First 4th Runway, Facial Recognition Facility & More Cool Things To Come Up @ IGI Soon
Delhiites, have you heard? Delhi’s pride and joy IGI Airport has recently come up with a brand new expansion plan and from what we know, it’s pretty rad!
Air Travel No More A Headache | The ambitious expansion plan of IGI Airport will include new taxiways, India’s 1st fourth runway and dual elevated eastern cross taxiways. Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said that the arrival hall and utility building have been razed and the entire work is expected to be finished till 2022. Apart from this, IGI Airport will also have various additions such as facial recognition for easier passenger entry, self baggage drop kiosks, among various others. So, we’re expecting that it’ll resolve the issue of long tiring queues and smoothen the flow - nice!
Plus, T3 would undergo some construction to add a 7th check-in island with baggage handling systems and 2 arrival carousels to increase its capacity and international to international passenger area along with an upgradation in IT baggage handling system. According to what DIAL said, after the completion of the expansion plan at T1, they would further start working for 4th terminal.
T2 will supposedly remain intact but not functional as all domestic flights will operate from T1 and all international flights from T3. The expansion of the airport by adding world-class facilities will not only enhance passenger experience but will also make it one of the best airports in the world by further accelerating the growth of the budding airlines.
We look forward to seeing all these changes become a reality!
