Get High Security Number Plates Installed On Your Vehicles By 13th Oct., Else You Might Be Jailed!

Hey Delhiites, listen up. Do you know that you’re supposed to get high security number plates affixed on your vehicles? Nope? Well, now you do so get it done one as soon as the process starts! Read on as we tell you what the rush is!

Here’s What’s Happening | The transport department has decided to crack down on vehicles that don’t have a high security number plate from next month. As per the department’s estimates, about 40 lakh vehicles, including cars and bikes, don’t have these sophisticated plates. So now, you peeps will have to get these number plates attached on your vehicles by the 13th of October, otherwise you’ll either be sentenced to a three-month jail term or you’ll have to pay a fine of Rs 500!

The process for getting these number plates will begin from the 2nd of October. For the same, a software is being developed which will soon become operational. Through that software, you’ll be able to upload the registration number of your vehicles and pay the fees online. You’ll then be given an appointment for a particular date and time when you can go and get those plates installed on your automobiles. The fee for fixing these number plates on a four-wheeler is Rs 213 and the same for a two-wheeler is Rs 67. As of now, there are 13 centres that are authorised to install these number plates.

Back in 2012, the Supreme Court had asked vehicle owners in various Union Territories and states to get these plates affixed on their cars. They are made of aluminium and are tamper-proof which will help protect the vehicles against theft.

Also, as we’ve previously told you, automobiles in Delhi need to get a colour sticker identifying the fuel on which they’re running. So, in order to make things easier for us Delhiites, the transport department officials have said that the stickers and high security plates will be installed at the same time. Such a relief!
