From Doners To Fatayers, Here's 4 Things We Sampled At This Unique German-Turkish Eaterey In CP

Are you tired of eating the same old food at the usual food joints? Do you want to try some new cuisines while NOT having to spend great gobs of money? If the answer is yes, then we’ve found a food joint for you like none other in town! Hidden away among the fine dine restaurants and cafes of Connaught Place, Universal Doner is probably the only place in town which offers German-Turkish cuisine.

This place takes its name from ‘doner’ which is a Turkish rendition of our very own shawarma rolls. With well-lit interiors, as if literally designed for cool food photography, this place is pretty vibrant! The funky wall decor and designs give it a totally cheery, happy vibe!

As we made our way to this outlet, everything on their menu fascinated us, from their fatayers (Arabic pizza) to the doner rolls. We ended up trying some of their vegetarian signature dishes and here’s what we think:

1. Grilled Paneer Doner

Perhaps the signature dish of this food joint, this Turkish delicacy had us enticed since the moment we entered the place. With paneer cubes, veggies and their secret oil wrapped inside a fluffy flatbread, this doner offered a flavour bomb for our taste buds! 

While we tried the vegetarian option, we recommend trying their non-vegetarian variants as well, which are closer to the traditional Turkish way of making these rolls! 

2. Mushroom And Garlic Safeeha

Another baked goodie which reminded us of pizza pockets, this mushroom filled pastry was very well presented. Unlike their other dishes, we weren’t particularly impressed by this dish. Only available during the afternoons, this pie is not to everyone’s taste, so we’ll advise you to skip it altogether!

3. Cheese And Garlic Fatayer

A dish which is best described as a hybrid between a pizza and a pie, this Fatayer offers something truly unique to the taste buds. With a cheesy and spicy filling, these baked beauties are perfect for people who love spicy cuisine! 

At first sight, this dish looks like a boat afloat with cheese and garlic waiting to take us on a voyage of foodgasm. And trust us, it did. We give this dish a big thumbs up!

4. Zafran Kahwa

A simmering hot concoction of green tea infused with saffron and topped with almond bits, this drink is a treat for all tea lovers out there! It’s got just the right amount of sweetness and offers a refreshing start to a day or end to a meal. A relief in this wintery weather, this drink is a must try for all who love hot and sweet beverages!

Our trip to this outlet proved to be the right kind of experimentation and offered a much-needed break from the cuisines that we encounter at most food outlets. The staff was very nice and the owner of the place personally asked us for suggestions. If you want a new culinary experience this season, Universal Doner is the place to be at!
