DelhiFrom Books At Rs 99 To 3D Bookmarks, Here's 6 Things To Check Out @ World Book Fair'18
A room without books is like a body without a soul and if you couldn't agree more, the 29th edition of the New Delhi World Book Fair is the place to head to right away! With 5 halls, more than 800 publishers presenting their work and established authors from the world over - we found ourselves lost in this world of diverse knowledge!
On a sunny winter morning, we dropped by to see what all the fuss was about, and to save you some exercise, we've listed out 6 must check out things at the book fair:
1. Second Hand Books That Are 50-60% Off From Bookchor

A very unique concept of selling old books at dirt cheap prices was the main motto of this stall. BC had gathered and sorted the collection into various genres which were in high demand and kept the prices at almost 50-60% of the original retail prices.
The books were in a terrific condition and barring a few, every other book looked as if it were brand new! The thing we loved the most was that by purchasing old books, we were doing our bit to save paper too - kudos to Bookchor!
2. Funky 3D Bookmarks & Popular Comics From Om Book Shop

Going to a book fair and not visiting OBS would actually be a sin! The collection, the quality, the pricing and the bookish accessories - this place has it all! Be it the work of Jeffrey Archer or Rhonda Byrne or the Famous Five collection, or books for children or for adults, the Garfield series or the Tintin series or multiple funky 3D bookmarks, we had lust in our eyes for everything at this stall so totally come drop by!
3. Backpacks, Cutesy Bookmarks & More @ Books Etc.

The lack of stationary shops was compensated by this small cute kiosk selling products which no book lover can turn their eyes away from. You name it, and they got it. Ranging from wall clocks, mugs, coasters, carry bags, backpacks to bookmarks, travel bag tags to even tiny lil earrings, their collection is just amazeballs!
All the items were designed and developed by them and showcased for bibliophile nerds like us. We loved the quotes printed on these items and could relate to almost every one of them *heart eyes*!
4. Socially Conscious Genre Of Books @ Notionpress.com

One of the elite stalls at the fair, we were in awe of this place owing to the very distinctive collection of books they possessed. The genre of the books was uncommon and were targeted towards the present times with an upfront view of every social issue we millennials are faced with.
Perspectives on life, be it from the point of view of a woman, a man, or a transgender person, their collection will astound you! Plus, we loved the fact that they were ready to offer help and encouragement to budding authors, both financially and mentally. Thumbs up to Notionpress for this!
5. Swiss Knives, Telescopes & Puzzles @ Ultimate Science World

This stall had multiple kinds of binoculars, Swiss knives for self-defence, telescopes of all sizes, compasses, brain games, puzzles, laser lights, magnifying glasses, table clocks, prisms, hourglasses - et al! On top of that, one helpful soul at the counter was patiently explaining how to make the most of every item they were selling. Science was never more fun, TBH!
6. Meet Your Fave Authors Like Ruskin Bond @ Author’s Corner

World Book Fair 2018 also had a lil something they called the ‘Authors Corner’, where visitors got to interact with some well-known authors such as Ruskin Bond, Jerry Pinto, Michael Creighton, Paro Anand, Mridula Garg and Ranjit Lal among others. Every day of the fair is dedicated to an author, who shares their experiences, insights and journey.
We got a chance to have a candid chat with Mr. Kapil Rampal who told us how he was a book fanatic in his early years and slowly started developing a interest towards reading classics and how he started observing people around him and has now finally launched his book at this platform. Those were quite inspirational 20 mins of our day!
All in all, a visit to the book fair made the bibliophile in us jump with joy at all the variety and diversity of books showcased here! The fair started on the 7th of January and is on till the 14th, so take some time out and head on over!
