Fries Before Guys?! 7 Things We Tried @ Delhi’s First Fries-Only Outlet Called Potet @ The Junction!
An exclusive fry place with a menu that lets you travel the world, Potet has just landed at The Junction and we’re loving it! Transforming our staple side dish into a full meal with delish international twists, this unique outlet is the brainchild of Shasti Jain, Sumedha Upadhyay, and Shivika Upadhyay - three Delhi-based women with wanderlust in their veins. Fries before guys fo’ real!
On their foodie sojourns across the globe, they discovered that fries, chips, pommes frites, patat frites or fried potatoes are just varying names for the good ol' potatoes dunked in hot oil.
From the Spanish Patatas Bravas to the German Bratkartoffeln to the South African Slap Chips, fries are an experience with assorted dressings, toppings, and textures. But they found this fry-versity missing in their hometown and voila! Potet was born.

On a lazy winter afternoon, we went for Potet’s launch, eagerly looking forward to the 13 varieties of fries they promised, including dessert fries(!). With al fresco seating in the courtyard of The Junction in Greenpark, it is the perfect place to catch some sun while munching on your fav comfort food. Here are our fry yays and nays:
1. American Chilly Cheese Fries (Chicken) 4/5

We started the meal with a bomb! The American Fries were definitely the best of the lot, bursting with cheese, jalapeno peppers, kidney beans, chicken chunks and a spicy sauce. We were hooked from the very first bite and savoured the medley of flavours till the very last one. It made us feel like we’ve done something right. Easily the star of our order!
2. German Bratkartoffeln (Bacon) 3.5/5

Bratkartoffeln is a traditional German dish meaning potatoes with bacon, which are usually pan fried and served with vegetables. Potet has stayed true to the recipe’s roots by adding perfectly seared and succulent bits of bacon with refreshing parsley and crunchy onions. You can opt for this one if you’re in the mood for fuss-free light bites.
3. Japanese Teriyaki 3/5

At first glance, we could’ve pegged the Japanese Teriyaki Fries as our desi crispy honey chilli potato but there was not much similarity in taste, so don’t be fooled. The sweet and sour sauce uniformly and generously glazed the fries while the sesame seeds lent a tasty crunch. It was interesting to see quintessential Japanese ingredients combined with our humble fried potatoes.
4. UK Curry Chips 2/5

This was the only real let-down here, simply because it was way too bland. The fries were also a tad bit greasy from the dressing on top, which was a little watery, and the entire concoction was not very appetizing to look at when compared to the other inviting plates on offer. Fortunately, there was tons of other stuff to dig our forks into!
5. Mexicano Fries 3.5/5

Absolutely smothered with tangy salsa and topped with pieces of cheddar, we tip our sombreros to this Mexican rendition! Giving strong competition to the traditional loaded nachos that have invaded the city, this item clearly emerged as a hot favourite at our table. The crispy sticks covered in runny salsa needed nothing else and we recommend wolfing them down sans any dip or sauce.
6. Kenyan Masala 3/5

This was a toned-down version of our beloved peri-peri fries. With a medium spice quotient, the potatoes were juicy and soft. The sour cream and spring onions sprinkled on top balanced out the heat from the spices well and one couldn’t help reaching for multiple mouthfuls! We paired these with a cheesy Jalapeno dip for the perfect creamy kick.
7. Canadian Sweet Maple Fries 3/5

Potet’s done us a great service by bringing to us their dessert fries, something we haven’t discovered anywhere else in Delhi yet, and for that they’ve already got bownie points. You can choose from two types - Canadian Sweet Maple Fries and Vietnamese Khoai Tay Chien; we picked the former which consisted of fried sweet potatoes drizzled with maple syrup and a touch of cinnamon and icing sugar. If you do not like your desserts super sweet or gooey (who are you?), then go for these. For us, they lacked flavour; a more generous helping of the syrup and cinnamon would’ve done the trick.
The best thing about Potet is that they don’t serve up skinny fries, only thick, wholesome potato sticks with mouth-watering toppings, much beyond the usual cheese and chicken routine. You can wash these down with soft drinks and Ginger Schnapps and we hear there’ll be Shakes in the future. The food menu will also be expanded to include flavours from more countries.
If fries make your world go round and you’ve got an experimental palate, then grab the gang and drop in for a very satis-frying afternoon!
