Food Reviewing | Creamy Bruschettas, Shawarmas & Jumbo Paninis @ Sandwich Factory, MV II

Bookmark

A quaint little joint tucked away in the Mayur Vihar II Market, Sandwich Factory is our latest haunt for quick, yet filling bites in East Delhi! For those of you who turn up their noses at the very mention of the neighbourhood, one visit to this cozy eatery, and you’ll see what you’re missing. South and Central Delhi may be the undisputed F&B hubs of the capital city, but the other side of town is rapidly catching up with some amazing outlets of its own! Case in point - Sandwich Factory! Read on.

The fact that this erstwhile takeaway eatery is now a bonafide QSR restaurant pays testimony to its popularity. With a menu offering pocket-friendly Italian, Mexican, Lebanese and American delights in a relaxed, homely ambience, San Fac is an ideal option for casual meetings over evening munchies or a leisurely brunch. The décor is easy on the eyes with beautiful paintings lining one brick-impressioned wall that you’re bound to stop and notice; the playlist is tasteful (we’re always up for some good ol’ Porcupine Tree!) and smoothly blends into the background.

Here’s what we gorged on:

Creamy Chicken Bruschetta

If you’re dining solo, craving a pizza and don’t wanna go the whole way, then the Creamy Bruschetta is the perfect alternative! Baked garlic bread topped with onion, capsicum, chicken salami and oregano, its flavours stood out due to the white sauce base instead of the usual cheese one, which we loved. Served with a tangy in-house Ranch dip (curd, mayo, spices), the dish was delicious and easy to finish off with a just-the-right-amount-of-crisp crust on the bread! Light bites done right.

Chicken Shawarma

Stuffed with well-seasoned, marinated and roasted chicken, veggies and mozzarella, the shawarma left a spicy aftertaste in our mouths. The filling was balanced (not stingy) which ensured that there was no spillage; we would have hated wasting even a chunk of it. This was accompanied by an authentic Al Baik dip which was super creamy and softened the heat from the chicken. Although this is one of their hottest selling items, we felt that the dish was a tad bit under-whelming. If you’re only going to try one thing here, then go for the sandwiches instead!

Tri Tip Jumbo Paneer Panini

This enormous sandwich was equally big on taste and easily the star of our meal, with a king-sized helping that your mom would approve of. Two layers of filling with four types of sauces (chilli, hot and sweet, cheese blend and Ranch paste), diced vegetables and spicy paneer between hot, grilled bread served with Ranch dip…damn, we can still taste it! The Jumbo version will fill you right up but you can also pick the Regular one (with a single layer of filling) if you want more room to savour other stuff.

Chocolate Croissant

Sandwich Factory most certainly doesn’t cut back on the ingredients as evidenced by their eggless Chocolate Croissant, which was basically swimming in chocolate sauce! The pastry was not as fresh and flaky as we would’ve liked it to be, and it was a bit of a struggle breaking it apart with cutlery, so we just dug in with our bare hands. It wasn’t anything to write home about, but can pass off as a quick dessert fix if you’re in a hurry - it’s chocolate after all!

Lemon Mint Iced Tea

article image

They currently serve only cold beverages but will introduce hot ones soon. We decided to play safe with this one and got ourselves their Lemon Iced Tea. Chilled and infused with the taste of mint leaves floating on top, the drink was refreshing with the zestiness lent by the lemon and went well with the food. Not bad, but not praise-worthy either, just something to wet our throats with.

They are also working on revamping their existing menu with healthier and cheaper options (under a hundred bucks) for their younger patrons, which we hear will be rolled out by the end of the month. Their entire selection is priced quite reasonably, and if you’re looking to get over with that random treat that your pals have been pestering you about, then you’ve struck gold with this one here. No need to break the bank for this one!

A heads up if you’re planning to land up here with your gang though - the max seating capacity here is 16-18, so plan accordingly. Good news if you stay close by, they deliver up to 10 kms. We recommend you order up their Mexican Pizza, Signature Bruschetta and Cold Coffee (besides the Jumbo Panini and Creamy Bruschetta) the next time your tummy rumbles!
