This Is A Representative Image
Water bodies form an integral part of our ecosystem. And with the alarming reduction in their numbers, it has become all the more vital to keep them clean and hygienic. In light of that, the Delhi Jal Board has just come up with a super cool and ingenious solution that we can’t wait to share with you! Scroll down to find out more about this initiative.
Floating Purification Islands | DJB has introduced these floaters which they’re calling purification islands in the Rajkori Lake, that soak up the pollutants and purify the water. These little islands are a mix of different hormone-treated plants that increase their nutrient uptake and make them grow faster. They prevent the growth of plants feeding on pollutants and which in turn makes the lake ecosystem self-cleaning - nice!
Out of the 60 islands that the board plans to set up, 24 have already been planted in the lake. The purification of the lake will allow creating an environment for the fishes to flourish too. A similar experiment is being carried out at the Hauz Khas lake, which has turned green due to the unbelievable growth of algae.
We appreciate this initiative by the government and look forward to dropping by these cleaner and prettier lakes soon!
