At Dwarka's Sector 10 Market, You'll Find Jeans For 50 Bucks, And We're Not Exaggerating!
Dwarka is a city of its own, pretty much isolated from the other parts of the city. It is swarming with buildings and apartments on every inch of its surface. The Sector 10 Market is quite the retreat from all of that. It’s a place buzzing with activity, delicious street food, and is a useful place for shopping.
Getting There
The nearest metro stations are the sector 10 & 11 metro stations on the blue line. From there it’s about a 30 rupees rickshaw ride. If you’re coming from the Dhaula Kuan side then most auto walas will know of this market as it’s one of the more popular ones.
Foodie Hub
This is a food lover’s paradise, especially for those who love street food & Indian bakeries. Puri Bakers are one of the most famed bakeries in the area. They make all kinds of biscuits and pastries that are absolutely decadent. When here do try their Jeera Biscuits and Atta Biscuits, the perfect accompaniments to your evening Chai!
Another bakery which is not so desi is ‘Pudding & Pie’. It serves western baked delicacies like Chicken Puffs, Croissants & Focaccia Bread besides sweet things such as Chocolate Truffle Cake & Tarts etc.
Durga Sindhi Namkeen and Dry Fruits is the only store you’ll need for buying biscuits, pickles, namkeens, dry fruits & different churans. They have every variant of namkeens & pickles available here. Our favourite is the Green Chilly Achaar and they also sell ‘Gulkand’ in packets used in ‘paan’. A must visit, this.
The market has an amazing range of street side joints and restaurant chains as well. Restaurants like Pind Balluchi, Fire n’ Ice and Sagar Ratna are popular choices for those who can’t stomach street food but if you can the place is at its culinary best in the evenings.
Several street side vendors selling Momos, Shawarmas & Kathi Rolls enjoy good business. Food trucks like ‘Firangi Momos’ are really revolutionizing the plain jane momo concept.
The Shawarmas found here too are amazing. All that there’s to say has been said about the 34, Chowringhee lane Kathi Rolls- simply divine.
General Stores
The Apra Plaza as the buildings called is always filled with all kinds of multi utility products which house everything.
Diurnal items such as plastic buckets, brooms, garbage bins, containers & lunch boxes for school-going kids to plastic chairs, dining tables, planters, mops, kitchen textiles, knives, chopping boards, bottle openers & ice-buckets. The list is endless.
There are also things like glass bangles, hair accessories, eyeliners, mascara & makeup kits from Taiwan & Korea available here.
The general & retail stores like Kumardeep Men’s offers a range of multi brand garments and diverse variety to cater to different needs & different budgets.
The flea markets offer clothes for as low as 50 rupees for jeans, now that’s something!
General stores like Apollo Pharmacy has everything for those with prescriptions.
In the grey, cemented, cinder-blocked surrounds of Dwarka where there’s concrete buildings as far as the eye can see, the Sector 10 Market does well to act as a little getaway from all this, for the people there. It’s always buzzing with activity as youth throng this market frequently, so head on over and make the most of its offerings.
