Guys, have you heard the latest news? The enforcement wing of our Transport Department is all set to go paperless and will be issuing e-challans from August, while prosecuting vehicle owners for pollution, overloading, traffic rule violations and more! Here’s the deets.

Tell Me More | The Delhi Government’s transport wing is gonna get 60 portable tablets and attached printers to make issuing e-challans easier. The enforcement wing has about 200 employees, who will be divided into 60 teams and a portable tablet will be given to each team.

Last year, the enforcement wing prosecuted about 1.7 lakh vehicles and issued more than 2.3 lakh challans for violations like operating illegal buses, unregistered rickshaws and more.

These portable devices, which are said to be far more technologically advanced than the current devices being used, will bring in more transparency in prosecution of vehicles under the Motor Vehicles Act and these devices will also the facility of accepting payments via debit cards.

And the biggest advantage of these devices? They’ll help in quick identification of repeat offenders. All the officials have to do is enter the registration number of the vehicle in question in the device to access their previous recorded violations.

Also, we Delhizens can expect body cameras for officers of the enforcement wing very soon! These cameras will assist in recording the interaction between an offender and the enforcement officer.

Well, here’s a big thumbs up to all these excellent initiatives by the enforcement wing and we’re looking forward to seeing them implemented soon!
