All Kinds Of Gravy Momos We Tried @ The Legendary Mom Hand Momos In Satya
Satya Niketan is one of those hidden gems which possesses a bag full of startling gifts in the form of eating joints. Being die-hard momo-chatoreys, we decided to explore the South Campus area and see what it had in store for us.
The excitement of momos took us into the busy lanes of Satya and with quite a lot of twists and turns and guidance from the local shops, we finally reached our destination! And boy, were we filled with eagerness. We found ourselves in front of a small shop bearing a red banner flaunting the name, ‘Mom Hand Momos’. Just outside the shop, they have a small counter on which momo steamers are kept which also acts as the kitchen for the joint.
They have ample seating space, one area on the ground floor and one in the basement. They are more inclined towards using fans to keep the environment under control instead of air-conditioners but this fact does not deter its customers from stopping by and trying out the items off their menu.
They specialize in gravy momos, which became our obvious choice of order(s). We gorged on the following:
Chicken Gravy Momos
Enormous pieces of momos filled with minced chicken along with cabbage and onions and seasoned with pepper and salt were deep fried before infusing them in special gravy/sauce prepared out of mayo, cheese, chilli, garlic, salt and oregano. The momos were immediately stirred in the sauce so as to pervade the momo pieces with the essence of the sauce. The pieces served were searing hot, crispy on the outside with the filling having a flavour of its own. The prima facie look of the dish made us drool over it. Missing out on these is actually a sin!

Veg Gravy Momos
The main essence of this dish is the gravy. The same gravy is used in all the variants under this category. The veg momos had the filling of minced cabbage, onions and surprisingly, garlic as well. The presence of garlic in the filling was a sweet surprise as it acted as a catalyst in enhancing the taste of the momos to the core. These balls of heaven were deep fried before being stirred in the same sauce as in the chicken gravy momos. Though the taste of the gravy remains the same, the difference was felt while munching the pieces. We were amazed to how the flavour of the sauce changed in this variant and complemented the flavour of the momos to the full!

Soya Gravy Momos
We were keen on trying out this variant as apparently, this was the most sought after item off their menu and we wanted to know why! Six pieces filled with minced soya chaap with onions, along with pepper and salt. The difference was the filling, which was that of soya chaap and not of soya pellets. The soya chaap was cooked in the tandoor, which was then minced to minute and very fine pieces along with onions and this mixture formed the inside of the momo pellets. No wonder people don’t hesitate before asking for this variant! The pieces were deep fried and stirred in the same sauce before being served piping hot to us.
Price | Rs 60
They also serve other comfort food like chow mein, fried rice, manchurian, spring rolls etc. but the highlight of the place are these gravy momos. The service is quick and being in the campus area, the prices are decent, and won’t burn a hole in your pocket. The only challenge would be to reach the location. We’d recommend you trust the local shops in that area and skip Google Maps for a change! See ya there!
