Chicken Tikka Momo Cocktail, Italian Smooch & More: Exactly What To Order @ Tikhi Gali, Noida

Bookmark

Our quest of trying the wackiest momos in town guides our way into peculiar places, some of which we have never heard of! This time, our cravings were fulfilled by a small shop operating in the heart of Noida in Sector 34, going by the name of ‘Tikhi Gali’.

Located in the B-Block market, right next to the IndusInd Bank ATM is this shop serving some matchless momos! Tandoori momos being their forte, they stick to what they do best, and hence avoid offering steamed ones. They’ve laid out long tables in front of the shop where guests can gorge upon the delicacies offered here. They also have a small kiosk apart from the shop, dedicated fully towards the tandoor. Going by the word-of-mouth popularity of these guys, the true essence of this place lies in the gravy used in their dishes! This fact being floated around, we were now yearning to try ‘em all.

Opening their shutters for the day at 4 PM in the evening, we crammed ourselves with the following:

Afghani Soya Momo

What happens when you fill momo shells with minced masala soya chaap? Apparently, this dish was the outcome and it was splendid! Along with the soya, onions and cabbage are also minced to ensure the flavour doesn’t fade away. The dumplings, after being roasted in the tandoor, were then stirred in their patent Afghani sauce, a white sauce made out of mayo and crème with a moderate spice level. The taste of masala soya along with the essence of momos was equally felt, with the cherry on the cake being the Afghani sauce! A quirky experiment and undoubtedly an amazing one.

Chicken Tikka Momo Cocktail

Being chicken fanatics, this one just had to be splurged on! The best part of eating here is that all the activities were done live, right in front of us. Though it takes extra time for the preparation, but it’s worth the wait. Chicken tikkas are roasted in the tandoor and then minced with onions, cabbage and coriander before forming the filling of the momos. The momos are again roasted in the tandoor before being stirred in their special cocktail sauce, which is super spicy. Due to the high spicy quotient of the sauce, hardly any spices are used inside the filling, thus maintaining the character of the dish. Just a heads up, keep your drinks handy, this dish is super hot!

Veg 3-In-1 Momos (Dry)

We loved this dish, as it gave us a hint of all the veg options available with them in one single platter. It had three dumplings each of regular Veg Momos, Paneer Momos and Soya Momos. We were amazed by the filling each dumpling held. Nine sizeable pieces were served to us along with a portion of salad. The Veg Momos were decent with salt and pepper playing the major part in the flavour.

The Paneer Momos had mashed paneer along with the regular veggies involved in regular veg momos. Since their marination was spicy, the blandness of the filling was well balanced. The Soya Momos were the highlight in this dish, with perfect flavour in the filling and an apt marination on the outside, making it a thoroughly appetizing dish!

Chicken Pasta Mix sauce

Seeing a high demand for this dish, we were inquisitive to explore more and ended up ordering it. Generous amount of pasta, stirred in mixed sauce (red and white), along with minced broccoli, onions, tomatoes, red and yellow bell peppers and capsicums was garnished with oregano and mayo before being served to us. No wonder this was the most sought after item off their menu!

The pasta was evenly boiled and the sauce was high on spices. The presence of oregano acted as a catalyst in enhancing its piquancy. The spirit of the sauce was utterly infused in every ingredient possessed in this dish. The flavour and the texture were definitely a treat for our eyes and taste buds respectively!

Drinks: Italian Smooch | Ice Tea | Virgin Mojito

article image

TG has recently added drinks to their menu and needless to say, we went in for the best ones they had to offer. The Virgin Mojito that these guys served us was decent. Despite adding all the ingredients in the requisite amounts, the true flavour could not be reached. The Ice Tea, being the safest item in the menu, was ordered and it literally came crawling to us and all our whining ended with the first gulp of this drink. An apt amount of ice tea mixture was added to water to get this one rolling.

We were too excited for the Italian Smooch but all our expectations came crashing down with the first sip of the drink. They used excessive syrup and along with that added sugar syrup, making it exceptionally sweet and even harder to go for the second sip. They definitely need some work in the drinks section.

Prices | Rs 80 (Italian Smooch), Rs 50 (Ice Tea) & Rs 60 (Virgin Mojito)

Not giving enough mileage to the drinks part, the place can turn out to be a regular adda for curing the hunger pangs haunting us in the evenings or at night (they’re open till 11). We loved the quantity of every dish that was served here. Plus, with high level of hygiene maintained and the hospitality offered, don’t be surprised to find us gorging here on various occasions. Now, go try their insane experiments with momos and thank us later!
