For short distances, if there’s one public transport that we Delhiites completely depend upon, it’s definitely auto-rikshaws. But we just heard about there being a possible increase in their fares that’ll make commuting even costlier than it already is!

Travelling Gets Dearer | The Delhi Government on Wednesday, the 12th of June, revealed that the auto-rickshaw fares will soon see a hike of 18.75% than the existing rates! The revised charges will now be Rs 25 for the first 1.5 km instead of 2 km while the per km charge will be raised from Rs 8 to Rs 9.5 which is 18.75%. Plus, there’s an introduction of a waiting charge at the rate of Rs 0.75/min in case there’s a delay at a traffic signal and luggage charges will be Rs 7.50!

The auto-rickshaws will be able to charge the revised fares after they get their meters recalibrated which will take about 1.5 months. The Transport Department has relayed this revision, which will affect over 90,000 auto-rickshaw drivers, to State Transport Authority (STA) after a lot of delays and it will now need the approval of the STA in accordance to the Motor Vehicles Act.

Looks like travelling just got a little more expensive, folks!
