Attention Delhizens, 14 Metro Stations On Magenta & Pink Line To Be Renamed Soon By DMRC
After making travel super convenient for us Dilliwallas with the sprawling metro network, DMRC is now planning to rename 14 metro stations on the Pink and Magenta Lines. Scroll down for deets!
What’s Going On? | A total of 14 stations, including IIT, Greater Kailash, Okhla NSIC, Terminal 1 IGI Airport, Panchsheel Park and Sukhdev Vihar Metro Stations of Magenta Line and Delhi Cantt., Moti Bagh, Bhikaji Cama Place, INA, South Extension, Ashram and IP Extension Metro Stations of the Pink Line are soon gonna be renamed.
Why is this happening, you ask? DMRC has recently discovered that it earns a significant amount of its advertising revenue through the names of metro stations. Since 2014, DMRC has been auctioning the names of select metro stations to private companies and PSUs in order to generate revenue. A total of 43 metro stations were renamed in the past four years. Wow!
In some metro stations like the newly renamed FIITJEE IIT, DMRC has already put signages with the new names of the stations and branded the stations with colours associated with the company or undertaking that has bought the semi-naming rights in the auction.
Now this is an interesting way to raise revenue. Nice going, DMRC!
